Houston, Texas- (April 21, 2005)
Salaried employees of Asia Chemical Corporation, Inc. (ACC) took a day
out of their busy work schedules to help build a community playground
at the Chinese Community Center (CCC) in conjunction with the United Way
of the Texas Gulf Coast (UWTGC) during National Volunteer Week.
“We always welcome the opportunity to make a positive difference
to our community.” states Dr. George Yang, the CEO of Asia Chemical
Corporation. “Sometimes we give with our wallets, but it is always
good to give with our time. I am proud of our employees and their willingness
to participate in the improvement of our community.”
National Volunteer Week, which runs April 17-23, is a time to honor people
who donate their time and energy to their community and citizens. It is
also raises awareness of the contributions that volunteers make to our
communities and to the country as a whole. The UWTGC helped organize volunteer
opportunities with their affiliated agencies and corporate donators in
the honor of this special week.
The goal of this windy Tuesday morning was to finish building and implanting
the playground structures, so that the wood substrate could be spread
the following day. Lead by two project managers from Learning Structures,
a New Hampshire based playground design firm, the wooden materials quickly
transformed into a playground by the end of the workday.
The Asia Chemical employees separated to work with others from ExxonMobile
and American Express in completing tasks that ranged from building a zip
line to creating wooden benches. “It all started to come together.
I am very excited for all the kids that will be playing here,” said
Gordon Chang.
The playground will be used daily as a way to relax after the hours spent
in class.
