Dr. Yang became involved with the business of international trading in
consumer and industrial products in 1976. In 1985, Dr. Yang founded Asia
Chemical Corp., Inc. Through his leadership, Asia Chemical has grown to
what it is today.
Dr. Yang personally believes in sharing his success and time with the
community. In promoting the business interest of the Asian community,
specifically Taiwanese community, Dr. Yang proactively organized and formed
Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of Greater Houston (TCCGH) in 1987, which
he subsequently served as President. In 1988, he pushed for the formation
of the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of North America (TCCNA) and then
was elected as its President in 1989. TCCNA has over 15,000 members today
with very successful business leaders in various industries. Since 1994,
Asia Chemical has been servicing as a United Way campaign pacesetter every
year. In 1995, Dr. Yang agreed to be the chair of the Asia/ Pacific Islander
Community Campaign of United Way of Texas Gulf Coast and raised a 50%
increase from the year before. In 1996, he was elected to join the Board
of Trustees of United Way of Texas Gulf Coast. Today, Dr. Yang also serves
on the Board of Trustees on American Leadership Forum as well as YMCA
of Greater Houston. In addition, he serves on the Advisory Board of the
Chinese Community Center and the Advisory Board to the Bayou Connection
with the University of Houston Downtown.
Dr. Yang’s active community involvements have earned him some of
the most prestigious recognitions such as an appointment by President
of Taiwan to be one of the commissioners in the Overseas Chinese Commission
and a mayoral announcement of George Yang Day by the honorable Houston
mayor, Mr. Bob Lanier. He also received United Way of Texas Gulf Coast’s
Outstanding Volunteer Achievement Award in 1997. Asia Chemical also was
selected as winner and recipient of the Second Annual outstanding Overseas
Taiwanese Entrepreneur in 2000 from the government of Taiwan, Republic
of China. In 2004, he was announced Asia Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneur
of the year. That same year, Dr. Yang was featured on Houston’s
channel 39 WBN as one of Houston’s unsung heroes.
